As
a filmmaker, sometimes I feel like I'm a glutton for punishment
...until I see the fruits of my labor.
When I was informed that I was the New York State winner of
a film competition, sponsored by the Chase Bank Legacy of Home
Ownership Tour, Blackfilm.com, Kodak and HBO. The requirement
to submit a film treatment that embodied the theme of preserving
the African-American legacy through it's community was easy
enough; but, the challenge to turn in a completed film in virtually
three weeks... you've got to be kidding!
Because I had written the treatment around the city of New Orleans,
a city that knows all too well what it means to preserve it's
legacy, I didn't feel right shooting it elsewhere. So how does
one prep a film in one week outside of their home, with no location,
no actors, no equipment and no crew... it's called FAITH! And
with that faith, the Village of New Orleans came together and
lifted me to greatness.
They thanked me for my commitment to their city and made this
film one of my most inspiring works to date. Beyond the storm,
know the Crescent City for it's strength, it's humanity and
it's courage.
It
took a village for me to make this movie, and it will take a
village to REMEMBER ~ REBUILD ~ REBIRTH.
